Visa for family of a French citizen

HOW TO APPLY ?

- Apply in person

- Provide the documents requested + 1 set of photocopies + fee (when applicable).


- Each visa applicant must include a pre-paid special delivery envelope (Up to 500gr) with his/her name and address, as all passports and documents will be only returned by post.Take note of the tracking number on the envelope for your own reference.

- In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a community code on visas , please be aware that FROM 5th APRIL 2010, VISA APPLICATIONS LODGED WITHOUT ALL REQUESTED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AND COPIES WILL LEAD TO A VISA REFUSAL.

A photocopy of each document must be included with the application.

As the Spouse of a French Citizen:

- A national passport or official travel document : (+ complete copy except for blank pages). Valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, with 2 blank visa pages. Your British Residence permit (stamped in passport or in the form of an identity card) must also exceed by more than 3 months the validity of the requested visa.

From 5th April 2010 only passports that have been issued (not extended !!!) during the past ten years can be endorsed with a visa. If your passport was issued longer than 10 years ago, please apply for a new passport at your Embassy

- One application form duly completed and signed by the applicant or the legal guardian for children.

- Two recent passeport-size photographs per person ( (1 glued or stappled on each application form and 1 left loose for scanning purpose)); in colour (3,5 x 4,5cm); The size of the face must not exceed 30mm; taken against a white background with good contrast / clear / good quality, printed on normal photographic paper, unmonted and full face without sunglasses or head covering. - Your spouse’s European Union passport.

- Your spouse’s valid and original proof of nationality: ’carte nationale d’identité’, or ’certificat de nationalité française’, or ’ampliation d’un décret de naturalisation ou de réintégration dans la nationalité française.

If your spouse is registered at the Consulate, i.e. "inscrit au registre des Français établis hors de France": carte d’inscription consulaire.

- Your original French "Livret de Famille" or "acte de mariage français".

If you don’t hold a ’Livret de Famille’:
- Your spouse’s valid "Carte Nationale d’Identité".
- Your spouse’s valid passport.
- Your marriage certificate.
- All requested supporting documents to apply for a short stay Schengen visa.

 As the Child of a French Citizen:

- A national passport or official travel document : (+ complete copy except for blank pages). Valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, with 2 blank visa pages. Your British Residence permit (stamped in passport or in the form of an identity card) must also exceed by more than 3 months the validity of the requested visa.

- Your parent’s valid and original proof of nationality: ’carte nationale d’identité’, or ’certificat de nationalité française’, or ’ampliation d’un décret de naturalisation ou de réintégration dans la nationalité française.

If the parent is not registered at the Consulate, i.e. ‘inscrit au registre des Français établis hors de France’:
- Your parent’s valid and original proof of nationality: ’carte nationale d’identité’, or ’certificat de nationalité française’, or ’ampliation d’un décret de naturalisation ou de réintégration dans la nationalité française.

- The child’s original full Birth Certificate (stating both parents’ names) with official translation if not in French or English OR the French original "livret de famille".

- If the child, under the age of 18, is travelling to France without his parents or with one parent, a parental authorisation to travel is requested. This letter should be completed and signed by both parents or legal guardian, clearly allowing the child to travel to France and appointing the person who will be responsible for him. This letter should be duly authenticated by a solicitor or Commissioner for Oaths, or by a Consular Officer of the applicants’ nationality. Both parents’ passports should be enclosed with the application, or a certified photocopy if the parents are residing abroad.

 As the Dependent Parent of a French Citizen:

- A national passport or official travel document : (+ complete copy except for blank pages). Valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, with 2 blank visa pages. Your British Residence permit (stamped in passport or in the form of an identity card) must also exceed by more than 3 months the validity of the requested visa.

- The child’s valid "Carte Nationale d’Identité".
- Official proof of relationship.
- An official letter from your child testifying you are dependent upon him/ her.
- Recent evidence of this financial dependability, i.e. proof of same address of residence / regular money transactions.
- Travel insurance including medical cover and repatriation. It must cover the duration of the requested visa.

Visa Nationals, wishing to get married in France with a French National and travel back to the UK within 3 months, will need to apply for a short stay Schengen visa and provide:
- Proof of their forthcoming marriage as well as proof of the French nationality of their future spouse;
- Proof of financial means of support and official proof of their stay;
- Return tickets to their country of residence.

 Visa application fee:

As the Spouse of a French Citizen:

Free of charge on presentation of the proofs of marriage and of the French nationality.

As the Child or Dependent Parent of a French Citizen:

As of the 1st of January 2007, the visa administrative fees will be 60 euros for all visa applications (transit, airport transit, short stay, DOM-TOM or countries represented by France visas), which must be paid in pound Sterling only. The fee is accorded to the exchange rate of the British Pound against the Euro, so varies between £40 and £41.

Please note that no fees will be refunded whatever the outcome of the visa application.
