Signature in Doha of a framework agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

President Sarkozy welcomes today’s signature in Doha of a framework agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM). It is a milestone on the road to a comprehensive resolution of the Darfur crisis.
President Sarkozy congratulates those who made the signature of this framework agreement possible. He reiterates in particular his confidence in and support for the Amir of Qatar and Joint United Nations and African Union Mediator Djibril Bassole’s quest to bring the political process in Darfur to a successful conclusion, and pays tribute to Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno’s contribution to their efforts.
President Sarkozy exhorts all those claiming to represent the aspirations of the Darfur people to face up to their responsibilities and participate in the negotiations which are going to continue in Doha with a view to the swift conclusion of an inclusive final agreement./.
