President pays tribute to French academic Stanley Hoffmann
Paris, 17 September 2015
The President was saddened to learn of the death of Stanley Hoffman, one of the most prestigious French figures of the American academic world.
Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Harvard University, founder then Chairman of the Center for European Studies for 25 years, this leading figure shaped by 20th-century history had a major impact on the academic world and Franco-American relations for over 50 years. He leaves a lasting impression on the thousands of students he taught from all over the world and is among the major figures in the transatlantic relationship who have constantly worked to forge the close, trustful ties between our two nations.
In 2000, Stanley Hoffmann was promoted to the rank of commandeur in the Légion d’Honneur, as much for his human qualities as for the scale of his achievement and the scope of his action.
The President extends his condolences to Inge Schneier Hoffmann, his wife./.
