President Hollande pays tribute to Pierre Boulez
Paris, 6 January 2016
Pierre Boulez made French music shine all around the world. As a composer and conductor, he always wanted to think through his era.
With the Ensemble Intercontemporain, then later IRCAM [Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music], he gave French culture considerable prestige. The Philharmonie de Paris [music complex], which was opened only just a year ago, owes him a great deal.
A formidable critical mind and a professor at the Collège de France, he was constantly thinking about subjects in relation to each other, making painting, poetry, architecture, cinema and music communicate with one another, always at the service of a more humane society.
The President is keen to pay tribute to his memory and extends his condolences to his family and close friends./.
