Paris attacks: messages of condolence
These have been published anonymously below.
The French Embassy thanks everyone who has joined the people of France in mourning; your show of solidarity and expressions of condolence have been deeply moving.
The Embassy of El Salvador would like to express its condolences to the families of the victims, and to the Government and the people of France on this sad occasion.
The Embassy of El Salvador avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of France the assurances of its highest consideration.
Embassy of Salvador
I’d like to express my sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery to those wounded.
I wish to express my most profound condolences for all who were killed and injured in this outrageous attack, and more widely to France and all the people of France who have been so movingly affected.
The only consolation is that it strengthens our solidarity and resolve to protect fundamental liberties.
I wish to express my condolence to the families, friends, colleagues and to the French people on the murder of the Charlie Hebdo journalists, the police officers and the road sweeper brutally murdered in the attacks yesterday and again this morning. Also, condolences to the families of those involved in other recent terrorist attacks in France.
The values of freedom, democracy and a secular state are a valued legacy of the French state which have benefitted all liberal democracies. Those who died defended libertarian values which they bravely championed against the dark forces of religious fundamentalism which seeks to impose its views on others. They will be remembered.
Vive la France. Vive La Liberte.
Like people all over the world, I have been sickened and saddened by the barbarous attack on those journalists and police who were simply doing their jobs, in a liberal western democracy. Freedom is an easy word to use, but sometimes those of us who live in free societies forget of the price we can be called upon to pay. The terrorists will never win; the pen will always be mightier than the sword.
I just want to take this time to send my condolences and sympathies to all the people of France.
We need to remember, we are all Charlie.
We write to express our sincere condolences to you, to the families, and the colleagues of those brutally assassinated at the offices of Charlie Hebdo yesterday. Also to the family of the policewoman murdered today.
We also wish to express our solidarity with the people of France in their fight against terrorism and for democracy. Your fight is our fight and we will stand with you in the face of any attack on freedom and democracy.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have been affected by this horrific act of extremism and terrorism.
We must all work together so that those responsible are brought to justice.
We stand shoulder to shoulder with France at this difficult time. Nothing can ever justify the use of violence.
Rehman Chishti MP
I offer my sincere condolences to the brave people who lost their lives in this barbaric attack. Cartoonists and police officers gave their lives in the name of our freedoms.
We shall never forget - JE SUIS CHARLIE.
I am so sorry for the tragedy. I regularly visited the CH website. I love France and its commitment to Liberté, Fraternité & Liberté.
All of the people of France are in my thoughts.
We will stand together and fight these inhuman people.
Long live Freedom
My heart and sympathy go out to the people of France, and especially the families of the victims of that tragically sad attack on Charlie Hebdo yesterday.......
France is one of the main roots of Western liberal democracy.......France has been a major influence in shaping the modern world...it will surely take more than three misguided people to curtail the freedoms and tolerance cherished throughout Europe. The very moving demonstrations of solidarity across France, Europe, and the world are proof enough of this. It is by standing shoulder to shoulder, in silence, that the futility of such acts can best be shown.........
In writing these few words, I too want to stand side by side with the people of France at this trying time.
Dear People of France,
We wish to tell you how horrified we are at what happened yesterday. We too have suffered from extremist violence here in the U.K.. The family of Europe is in mourning today, and stands with you.
Vive la France!
I fell in love with France and the French people on my first visit when I was 11 years old. I am now nearly 65. I have been and remain a life-long Francophile.
I send my condolences to those who are left bereaved after this ghastly attack on Charlie Hebdo. My best wishes also to those who have been left injured for a speedy and full recovery. I send my respect to the French people and their leaders for the dignified way they have behaved in response to this event.
Vive La Republique Francaise – Liberte, Egalite et Fraternite.
The Agincourt 600 Committee, that is planning with the close and fraternal involvement of France the commemoration of the soldiers who fought on each side of this battle 600 years ago, sends its very sincere condolences for the assassination of the innocent journalists at Charlie Hebdo. The Committee supports to its utmost the abhorrence of such barbaric acts expressed by President Hollande. These acts are against all that our nations stand for.
My heart goes out to the people of France at this terrible time. We are with you.
Two great nations united once more to resist barbaric invasion of their democratic values and their homelands.
Viva La France
Viva la France....Viva la Republic...je suis charlie!!!!.....the world watches you in this terrible time and takes inspiration by your courage.
Sincere condolences to all the families of the victims.
I salute the bravery of the Charlie Hebdo staff who were at the forefront of supporting out freedom of speech and thought.
I wish to express my condolences to everyone impacted by the attack. France has been and will continue to be a beacon for the freedoms and peace that a secular state has helped bring to Europe. Yesterday’s events should only serve to strengthen our commitment to those principles and of Liberté, Égalité, et Fraternité. We stand with you.
With our sincerest sympathies. We will not let this medieval bullying change us. Long live France.
Deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
My thoughts are with the French people & they have my full support.
It was with great sadness that I saw the unfolding news yesterday. Rest assured that the whole world stands shoulder to shoulder with France at this time. There is no greater crime than the suppression of freedom of speech, without it tyranny and evil are free to do their will. Let this be a lesson to all of us that we need to fill our hearts with empathy and love, not intolerance and hate. Vive La France.
My thoughts and prayers for the "Charlie Hebdo" victims and their families. So saddened by this event yet have not lost hope of a future where there will be "peace on earth, goodwill to men".
Bon Courage to France, a country sooo close to my heart & soul,
As an British Algerian, I stand with you, my deepest condolences to you. My sympathies to the French people and to the families and friends of those at Charlie Hebdo who lost their lives.
Je suis Charlie
On behalf of my family we offer our sincere condolences to the families of all of the people shot in the recent attack in Paris.
This was an outrageous attack on free speech and the rights that all human beings should enjoy.
Je suis Charlie.
To the people of France – you are not alone and we all stand 100% behind La Republique, freedom of the press , and in condemning the piracy of Islam by extremists . Stay strong
My Wife and I would like to give our sincere condoleances, to the families of the victims of this heinous crime. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all, and we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of France. Vive La France, Je suis Charlie.
Freedom of expression and personal liberty has always carried a heavy price tag and our thoughts are with our French friends and all those affected, or whose lives were tragically extinguished by this barbaric act.
Over fifty years ago in a speech in defence of freedom JF Kennedy said: “Ich bin ein Berliner.” Today the cry of unity and freedom is simply: “Je Suis Charlie.”
The thoughts of the world are with France and its citizens.
To my French friends,
The barbaric terrorist attack at the offices of Charlie Hebdo is an attack on free speech in a Western capital. Although we may have been temporarily brought to our knees in grief and despair, we stand shoulder to shoulder in the promotion of our democratic values.
This morning, I instigated a discussion on recent events in France with my pupils at a school in east London. We talked about what had happened, why they think it happened and what the consequences of Wednesday’s attacks might mean for us and for wider society. The pupils didn’t all agree, but they appreciated that they all had the right to express their opinions, to be listened to, and to develop a respectful dialogue with one another. If every school teacher in our world creates a forum for dialogue and tolerance, we can overcome this fear of freedom.
I stand united with you and all those who believe in the importance of freedom of expression, freedom of thought and freedom of the press.
Nous sommes tous Charlie.
Vive la France.
Your English friend and former Embassy colleague,
I just want to add my message of condolences to the family and friends of those who died standing up for the liberties which have been upheld by France for so long and have been such an inspiration over many years to many millions of English people – and our continuing support to all French people who continue to fight for them. Viva La France! Liberte, egalite, fraternite.
Dear People of France
The civilised world is standing beside you in the wake of this terrible loss. The spirit of Charlie Hebdo will be carried forward in the hearts of many. Stay strong and do not give in to fear or hate.
Vive la France. Vive la Liberte.
As a journalist and a longtime resident of Paris, I promise to do everything in my writing power to make the significance of this involuntary sacrifice for democracy and freedom of speech understandable to the scared Finnish press and audience whose majority still thinks "we are not involved". My condolences to the friends, families and colleagues of the victims at Charlie Hebdo.
We offer our sincere condolences to the brave journalists and police officers who lost their lives. May the power of pen triumph over violence! We stand with you in defending freedom and liberty.
Vive La Liberte!
We are horrified by this terrible atrocity. Our thoughts and sympathy go to the families of the victims and indeed to the people of France. This was an attack against civilisation, against all that we hold dear. We must stand united with France.
Dear Ambassador of France and the French people especially in Paris.
Deepest Sympathy to the cartoonists and artists who could draw and have their say. Violence doesn’t achieve anything but grieve and giving headline news. In Britain we are looking out for this. In the old days London and other areas had violence from the Irish. Talking and communication for Peace is essential but these people what violence. Paris is a place for Romance and know violence will keep people away. Keep strong Paris as these people win. Londoners and the British we keep to are normal routine but keep are eyes and ears open for danger. Also make sure we phone and get help if we can.
My sincere regrets for those who have died, I felt it was right to stand with my cousins in France and decry any such barbaric acts
if all moderate people, whatever their personal beliefs or creed stand together the evil will never win....this is an opportunity whatever your faith to stand up, be counted and yes say I may be scared but I am not beaten...we will prevail. God bless the dead if anyone is going to paradise it will be them not their killers
I am deeply saddened to read in the news what has happened in your country, the dreadful attack on Charlie Hebdo. Our two countries are tied together through the many ordeals in history that we have suffered together, and your suffering is our suffering. All of France will be in my thoughts in the days ahead. I know that I speak for all of the British people when I say: we are with you.
My self and my family and friends send our FRENCH BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN PARIS our most sincere condolences .We stand together with you in sharing your pain sadness and horror of the savage murders in the offices of Charlie Hebdo.
The English are the brothers and sisters of the French and the French are the brothers and sisters of us English we stand united in this hour of tragedy--- God rest the sole of the dead.
Vive La France--------Je Suis Charlie
I would like to show my solidarity with the team at Charlie Habdo and the people of France at this time. In the words of Voltaire, "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it."
Nous sommes tous Charlie
Our family was shocked at the events at Charlie Hebdo. This was an attack on the right to free speech, which goes against the will of every right-minded person in England and France, and it can never, will never, succeed.
Parisiennes rester forte, la France reste forte.
I would like to express my deepest and sincerest condolences, to the families, the colleagues of those brutally assassinated at the offices of Charlie Hebdo yesterday and also to the people of France. May I also send my condolences to the family of the policewoman murdered earlier today. At this moment, like main in the past we are one and will not be divided
Je suis Charlie
Thank you to the French People for standing up for truth. I speak with you all.
Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who were brave enough to express themselves freely in spite of the threat posed by those who have succumbed to an evil that now seeks to grow within their own religion and spread hatred and fear wherever it reaches. The strength and conviction demonstrated by those murdered and shared by so many will prevail. Our thoughts are with you.
To the French Embassy in London
Please pass on to the families, friends, and colleagues of those who were killed in the Charlie Hebdo massacre, my sincerest condolences.
In addition, our thoughts are also with those who have been affected by the other recent attacks. Both members of the public and of the security forces.
It is difficult to express in words the feelings of sadness at these actions.
My deepest sympathies to everyone one in France on the awful tragedy which happened on Wednesday. “Evil will only triumph if good men do nothing”
VIVE LA FRANCE TOURJOURS ALL MY LOVE
My thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially the injured and bereaved. France does not deserve this. Irish by birth and living in the UK - today I am French.
God bless you all
My sincere condolonces to the loved ones and friends of the victims and to the people of France. As an ex serviceman I salute you and know you will proudly stand against such barbarism as will all right thinking people. My thoughts are with you.
I would like to express my condolences and sympathies all the families and friends who lossed loved ones in yesterday terrible event. Also wish all the people who were injured a speedy recovery.
Vive La France
We are numb with sadness.
Shocking, so shocking. When the culture of empowered Islamic intolerance explodes against the old long fought for voice of French democratic freedoms. There can be no dialogue it seems. Those journalists and helpers died in a tragedy and with them a bit of French defiance born from revolution - will it ever be the same again? We fear not.
We salute them all and give all our love to their families and friends.
Vive la liberte; Vive la France; Vive Charlie.
Dear All of France,
I cannot speak French, I cannot understand French and I cannot write French, but I can stand with all French men. women and children of whatever colour, of whatever religion or no religion, and whatever sexual orientation and stand together with France and all that is French in sympathy support and solidarity for their loss. For their loss is loss to us and all of the world. This is a long and difficult sickness that has gripped the world, but by peace and the values of France the world will overcome.
God be with you. Merci.
I just wished to say how shocked and saddened I was by the events in Paris both yesterday and today.
I have been moved by the quiet dignity and stoicism your people are showing in the face of such appalling attrocities. That so many people have stayed on the streets to show their respect and to stand up for freedom and liberty is heroic and shows true courage and bravery.
My thought are with you.
Sincere condolences and sympathy to the friends and families of all those killed in this cowardly attack. Being English, I know that there has always been a certain “creative tension” between our two countries but, on my part, this has always been underpinned by respect and love for the French Nation and its people. We are always at our best when we stand together and we are certainly doing that now.
We are (and always will be) Charlie
Our condolences to the people of France and the families of those killed and injured
I’d like to express my condolences for all killed, injured and bereaved by the horrific attacks yesterday in Paris. It was a Frenchman that said “I disagree with what you say, but defend to the death your right to say it”. Brave people have died defending freedom of expression, which we all hold dear. They did not die in vain.
To the families of those who were killed and injured you are in our thoughts and prayers. Your loved ones will never be forgotten
Viva la France
I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those killed and wounded in the attack on Charlie Hebdo. I urge the people of France to take heart from the solidarity and grief expressed by thousands around the world. I also urge you to press forward towards the creation of a more enlightened, more open, more inclusive and more tolerant society - this is a time for firm resolve and determination. We are with you.
"Je suis Charlie Hebdo"
Et moi aussi!
Avec me respectes profond a les morts de 7 and 8 janvier, les blesses et leur familles
I am so sad to hear of what has happened in your country with the tragedy at the Charlie Hebdo offfices. My thoughts are with you all, and pray that France will recover from this tragedy. I pray that there will be peace in your country, and that hearts and minds will heal. May God bless you all.
My sencere best wishes to the families of the brave Police Officers who have given their lives to protect people. Please ensure that the people of France are informed of the debt they owe to their Police/Gendarmarie.
To the people of France
This news is so sad, so sad.
My family wish to express our sincere condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and to the French people on the murder of the Charlie Hebdo journalists.
Also for the police officers and the road sweeper brutally murdered in the attacks yesterday and again this morning and condolences to the families of those involved in
other recent terrorist attacks in France.
Standing up for Freedom of speech and expression including satire!
Vive la France. Vive La Liberté.
My sincere condolences to all French people around the world, especially families of victims... Did not realise until I found myself on tears looking at the cop shot dead... That’s so barbarian...
These people are fanatics and no way they represent any Muslim... I’m a Muslim myself and my father was a Moroccan "ancien combattant" with the French army in ww2 and he was very proud of it because he was supporting a noble matter: peace in Europe... The real Muslims are the 1.8 billion around the world that you don’t hear about them and not the handful fanatics making hoo-haas among us...
Please remember that morocco has been always part of France, and France is part of Morocco, you are in our heart and we love everything that’s French... Vive la France
Deepest condolences for the lost lives which stood straight and not on their knees, in fight for liberty of people on planet Earth. They perished defending humanity against forces of darkness, which want to destroy the islamic religion, via jihad. The jihadists (the ones who kill in the name of Islamic religion) disgrace the very religion in the name of which they murder. Charlie Hebdo have been killed by antihumans. Charlie Hebdo will live forever in my memory!!!
To whom it concerns
I would like to offer my condolences to all those affected by the recent atrocities committed in Paris. Though I am an Irishman living in London I believe the attack was one not just on the Charlie Hebdo publication but one on the freedom of speech and on liberal free societies generally.
I hope the perpetrators are brought to justice and that the response by the authorities is both measured and responsible. We must not spread fear, we must spread tolerance and understanding in order to protect the freedoms we enjoy.
Yours in sympathy
My heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of the staff of the magazine Charlie Hebdo and the police officers murdered by people who have no belief in a fundamental freedom of all people in the civilised world and that is the right of free speech. As soon as I heard of this atrocity I immediately thought of the something that summed up the views of the great French philosopher Francois-Marie Arouet, Voltaire, on Free Speech and that is "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".
I stand united with the French people in mourning the deaths of these innocent people.
We are sickened by what has happened in Paris – so sad and inhuman.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the dead and wounded.
Will there ever be an end to this terrorism – it is so sickening!
We stand next to all our French friends in London and France!
We enjoyed a week in Paris in December.
It is heartrending that this atrocity has been committed in your beautiful city and taken twelve innocent lives.
We wish to record our deep sympathy and wish you the strength to see this crisis through.
I stand with the people of France and with decent humans everywhere to maintain the fight for free speech - I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.
Dear French people
I would like to express my deep sympathy and solidarity with all of the injured people by the terrorists attacks that took place yesterday on the French magazine and wishing peace for all those lost their lives...we would like to emphasize to keep international efforts including france to fight and defeat perverted way of thinking and taking severe actions against those adopting such thoughts and making such crimes...no mercy with such criminals.
People are quite correct when they state ’words cannot express’ how they feel. How can you describe the feeling of such pain, sorrow, anger and a fierce love all at once.
Remember who loves you, as a nation France, we will be there in heart, soul and spirit always. You will never walk alone, as We Are All Charlie now.
If there is anything you need, from just a simple, average person as myself, I will be there without a shadow of a doubt standing alongside you in Liberte,Egalite, and Fraternite.
With Love and Support,
Please accept my deepest condolences following the recent events in Paris. My thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims of this attack.
I offer my deepest sympathies to the murdered staff of Charlie Hebdo and congratulate the French authorities for resisting this attack on journalistic freedom.
My sincere condolences to the whole team at Charlie Hebdo and to the families of the victims – including those of the two courageous police officers killed doing their duty.
As a French citizen living in England for a year, I have been watching with horror the rise of all kinds of extremisms in France, in the UK and in Europe. Extremisms which reach their dark apex in such acts of barbarism.
We must all, as Europeans, as citizens of democratic societies where freedom of speech, of thought and of the press are among our most fundamental rights (let’s not forget it!), and as human beings, condemn this barbarism, and the folly and ignorance of extremists. This can be achieved through education, listening, and respecting others and cultures that are different to ours, and doing our civic duty. Let us use our vote wisely!
Today, in England, in Seattle in the US where I am currently, and around the world, we are all Charlie.
So long live Charlie Hebdo, and all journalists who fight with just words and drawings everywhere in the world to defend our freedom of speech.
I should like to express my condolences to the families of the victims of the massacre at the offices of Charlie Hebdo.
No ideology, whether religious or not, can be permitted to crush the human spirit.
I urge the French government to be true to the founding principles of the French Republic in pursuit of both its domestic and foreign policies.
Hommage a l’esprit voltairien.
Stand strong, stand united – together good men and women will overcome evil. We join you in remembering and honouring the selfless bravery of the police officers who faced danger and gave their lives that others might live. We stand with you as you remember the innocent victims of this selfless and barbaric incident. Vive La France!
My heart goes out to the families, friends and colleagues of the fallen defenders of democracy and free speech.
May France stand firm in the face of this outrage and have the strength to work and find peace with all its peoples.
The pen will always be mightier than the terrorists’ guns or bombs.
The good people of the world stand shoulder to shoulder with you.
Never stop wielding your pens!
Je suis Charlie.
Please send my condolences to the families, coworkers, the people of Paris & France.
"JE SUIS CHARLIE" !!!!!!!
We send our condolences and deepest sympathy to the families, friends and colleagues of all the victims, as well as to the people of France. We also send our best wishes for the speedy recovery of all those wounded in these atrocious attacks.
We must not forget, we must remember them.
I need to express my condolences and horror at the murderous attack today.
This is an outrageous, disgusting affair and I wish you to know that there are many of us Englishmen who enjoy your hospitality, your culture and being joined with you in Europe.
Dear French Embassy,
I am just a normal guy living a normal life in a normal job. I am not a famous politician or leader. I just wanted to let you know that, though I am sure all the world leaders are offering their condolences it is not just them. The normal people of Britain stand with you too.
What happened to the Charlie Hebdo newspaper was an utter tragedy and extreme act of barbarism. Though their lives ended under appalling circumstances, they will never be forgotten. My thoughts go out to all of the families and friends of those killed in the accident, and my thoughts go out to France as well.
I hope that once this is over, France comes out stronger and more united.
As an American citizen living in London, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies and firmest support to the people of France, We stand with you in this horrific attack against the values that made our nations great.
Rester courageux.
Dear people of France we stand with you on this day with respect to you !
My wife and I wish to express our solidarity with the People of France at this terrible time
I would like to extend to the French people my sincere sympathy and condolences following the barbaric attack on 7th. January 2015 in Paris. I am only one person, but please be assured, there are millions of English people who feel as I do. Let freedom prevail and may God bless France. Je suis Chalie.
Just want to say so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to all of France and especially the victims families. God Bless you all
My family would like to say we share the grief, outrage and horror of France at the terrible events in Paris yesterday. This was an unacceptable attack on the liberal values we are proud to share with France - the birthplace of so much of our common culture.
Vive la France!
Vive la France - Vive le PARIS... Feeling very sad for the beautfiul City of Paris..City of Love, Home of Culture and Art , violated by murderers.
Please accept my sincere condolences for the recent deaths in Paris, in our thoughts for the people and police officers of France.
I cannot speak in the French language but I wish to receive the next and most important edition of Charlie Hebdo (that I have never heard of previously) to indicate, maybe in only a symbolic way, my support for French liberty of free speech. I am appalled by what has happened by savages in the most civilised country that has given sanctuary and equal rights and opportunities to all who seek help, for this outrage to have happened. Please tell me how I can obtain and pay for this edition and any appropriate shipping cost.
Je suis Charlie. I am sending my condolences to the French nation and particularly to the families of those who were killed in Paris yesterday.
Though I follow no religion myself, I warmly appreciate the French leaders of diverse religions standing together today and the dignity of various responses from the leaders of French society. I am so very sorry that you, and all of us, have had to suffer the latest atrocity.

Please accept our condolences for the loss of such talented and brave French people. I understand the newspaper is planning to print many more copies of their newspaper. As a person who is devastated over the events of yesterday, I would like to do something to show my support by purchasing a copy. I personally think every free-thinking and liberal adult should buy a copy to send a powerful message to these criminals. Wish you all the best and wish French people safety and peace.

We would just like to expess our sorrow and outrage at the tragic loss of life in the shooting of your courageous journalists at Charlie H in Paris. People around the world stand with France at such a time and the many cartoons which try to express our sorrow and dismay hold out such a wonderful sign of how humour is a far stronger weapon than that of the cowards who use a gun. With our best wishes and prayers,
Revd. Sisters A&I
Je suis Charlie!
Terrible and outrageous. Like every civilised person in the world, Je suis Charlie.

Je Suis Charlie
May I offer my deepest condolences to the families of the innocent journalists whom were murdered by a bunch of lunatics, misfits and mentally constipated terrorists.
Long may their knowledge, ability, and humanity continue. Long live freedom of express. Long live France.
Thinking of all French people at this distressful time.
My thoughts are with the people of France. I am sure all the people of UK are with you during this traumatic time for your country.
With very best wishes
Please accept my sincere condolences for the appalling happenings in Paris yesterday. I stand steadfastly alongside everyone of you at this time
I wanted to say that my thoughts are with the people of France after this cowardly, deranged attack. As an Englishwoman, a European and a Westerner I proudly share your core values of freedom of speech, freedom of thought, a free press, tolerance and respect for human life. Humour and laughter are the best ways of exposing extremism as the hollow, idiotic savagery that it is, and they are the tools that we should continue to use. The bravery of the journalists and cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo is inspiring. The uncivilised buffoons that perpetrated this heinous attack must be made to see that their mindless brutality only makes us stronger, and there are more of us than there are of them.
My sympathy and love to the families of the victims and to French people everywhere. I apologise that as a typical Englishwoman I do not know enough French to write this note in your own language.
Je suis Charlie
We, here in Britain, wish to send you our deepest heartfelt sympathies after the horrific tragedy which you have endured. It was an attack on every decent right-minded person in the world and we will stand with you forever as brothers.
The staff and employees of the magazine concerned and those brave police officers who raced into the face of danger are all heroes, many of course who paid for their courage with the biggest possible sacrifice, both for themselves and their poor families.
May we wish you strength at this awful time and if it is of some small concelation then you must be assured that our thoughts are with you all.
The hearts of the United Kingdom go out to all of the French nation, our neighbours. I have pride in announcing - JE SUIS CHARLIE.
God bless you all,
Just a brief message to offer my condolences to all of the victims of the recent atrocitiies, their families and and friends.
My profound sympathies to all of France. What has happened is beyond belief and I am so very very sorry.
Je suis Charlie.
Like most people I was saddened by yesterday’s terrible events in Paris.
This was an act of barbarism which decent, law abiding people have difficulty in comprehending.
As a Francophile who has visited your country on many occasions I send the French people and the families affected my sincerest condolences.
Today I am a Parisian and a Frenchman, Vive la France.
I’m deeply saddened by the events in Paris. My heart goes out to the people of France and, in particular, the relatives of those who lost their lives. Long may free and democratic countries maintain their liberty and ability to express opinions. My family send our love to the people of France.
Je suis Charlie.
I send my sincere condolences. Thoughts and prayers and prayers for the families and colleagues of the victims.
As an ordinary member of the British public, and a Francophile I just want to send my total sympathy to and express my solidarity with the citizens of France, and the families of the deceased ......je suis Charlie (literally).
I would like to offer my condolences to the families and the people of France of those who were so cowardly killed in Paris yesterday. My hope is that you will find the perpetrators and bring them to justice, the only right conclusion to such an horrific attack. I admire the French stand against the veil in public places and it’s determination to maintain an absolute right to freedom of speech and it’s own identity.
My thoughts are with you.
As the most civilised and enlightened country the in world it appals me that France has been attacked in this manner. Please accept my most sincere condolences (for what little they are worth).
Please accept my condolences to those Citizens of France killed or injured in the recent atrocities.
I am sure my fellow countrymen will have the same feelings of outrage at these cold blooded murders and the assault on the very essence of democracy.
"Je Suis Charlie"
Dear Sir/Madam - I wish to express my sympathy to all the people involved in the horrific shootings that took place in Paris. From listening to BBC News it sounds like the French people are behaving in a magnificent manner following the outrage.
Condolences to all involved
At this terrible time my heart goes out to your nation and all those affected by this senseless act of inhumanity, especially the families.
As a Nation you have always shown your compassion, but free speech is sacred, don’t give up that right to anyone.
And know that free thinkers and those with good heart are with you and stand behind your values as a Nation.
Look after those affected by this horrible crime.
So, so sad and senseless
As a world we stand together in hope that humanity shall prevail
My sincere sympathies for the sad loss of life in this barbaric attack.
Thoughts with the families of those who died.
I send my deepest condolences to the bereaved, my best wishes to the injured for a speedy recovery and I declare my solidarity with the French People.
Je suis Charlie!
May the murdered rest in peace. May their spirit live on.
A dark time for your great nation. Sending you all the light I can muster.
Vive La France!
As frequent visitors to, and lovers of your beautiful Country, may we quite simply offer our sincere thoughts to not only the people and families who have suffered during this dreadful atrocity, but to your entire nation. Our love and support is with you always.
They stood for freedom of speech. This terrible act must only make the peoples of Europe stronger in their determination to uphold these values.
I am still utterly outraged at the recent attack your beautiful city and country bore. I love France for everything it stands for and wish the healing of your wounds as quickly as possibly.
As an Englishman used to withstanding various terrorist attacks on our capital over the last 30 years, do not ever lose sight of your core values and principals; together we shall endure and withstand the efforts from all those who challenge our freedom.
My thoughts are with you at this time.
Our family sends our deepest sympathy to the families of those lost in this atrocity.
The Government of France has our full support in whatever action is necessary in difficult circumstances.
My sincere condolences to all the Families affected.
The people of France should know they do not stand alone.
I just wanted to send my heartfelt condolences to the French People, particularly the family and friends of those who have died and to those who are injured or at risk. This terrible, barbaric and ignorant attack on French citizens is an attack on all of us who value democracy, freedom of speech and humanity, and so I say- I stand with you; Je suis Charlie
I Speak for no Group or Organisation---simply for Myself;I wish it to be known that as a Socialist and a Humanist , and , as a supporter of Free Speech and Thought , i convey My deepest sympathy for the People of France and Paris in particular.
This was a cowardly and murderous attack on the very concept of Free Speech and Free Thought!!!
These Thugs are scared.....of a CARTOON!!!! What fragile , paranoid and EMPTY Lives They must lead!!!
I have enjoyed many a visit to Paris , and have always especially enjoyed the Lively Debates in and around the Cafe’s there.
To Paraphrase Voltaire… the only Thing We should all be intolerant of....is INTOLERANCE!!!
I feel sure that the People of France will shake this Horror off Their Shoulders , and continue to be Standard-Bearers for Decency , Free Thought , and Civilisation!
I am more than happy to say..JE SUIS CHARLIE!!!
I wish to express my most profound condolences for all who were killed and injured in this outrageous attack; those who believe in democracy and a free and fair society must all support and live by the main tenets of the French republic:
Liberty AND Equality AND Brotherhood

I am extremely saddened by the events that have unfolded over the last few days, that go against democracy, freedom of speech and the values we hold so dear in the western world. As a member of the press I am among those who, every day, assume a right that has only been secured through great courage, great sacrifice and a great tradition of secular thought and argument. It is thus with great sadness, but also with the kind of hope that only an uncompromising defence of free expression can summon, that I watch the members of the Charlie Hebdo staff being inducted to the pantheon of those who have had to die for that right.
Je suis Charlie.
We stand together, we stand united
Je suis Charlie
I wish to add my own sympathies, prayers and condolences to France at this difficult time.
Sincere condolences to all citizens of France in the face of this wicked and evil act.
Shoulder to shoulder with our French neighbours the people of Britain stand.
Defiant and resolute in our mutual beliefs of freedom of speech, lifestyle and brotherhood.
Truly senseless. My sympathy and love go to all those suffering after these horrific attacks. We must all stand united in these dark days and remember that an extremist minority will never alter our fundamental democratic principles.

I send all my best wishes to those who have lost loved ones. Vive la France!

As a British Citizen and a lifelong admirer of France I wanted to send my sincere condolences and to say that we all stand shoulder to shoulder with our friends in France who are experiencing this onslaught. France is a proud and ancient nation and you will emerge from this even stronger. Je suis Charlie.
The French nation does not stand alone - the strong and unending force of humanity gathers behind to speed an end to this atrocity. May the Almighty Lord be with you all.

Condolences to all the victims of the atrocities committed in France this week. All people of all faiths and none should be sickened by these horrendous acts.
Liberté, égalité and fraternité are principles that all free people must share and cherish. These principles can not and must not be undermined by ignorance and violence.
Je Suis Charlie
Sincere condolences to the people of France. We stand with you
I would like to offer my condolences to the families of the people killed and injured this week in all the attacks upon France.
The only positive from this terrible few days has been the way the general French populace has stood together with dignity to decry these barbaric acts.
We in the liberal democracies must never forget that our freedom was hard won and needs to be protected from extremists from all political / religious groups.
Vive la France
I would like to express my condolences. My thoughts are with everyone involved and effected by the events.
Dear brave people of France,
I grieve with you, share your outrage, watch with you and support your ongoing commitment to Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite.
Vive la France libre!
I just want to say that I was shocked, devastated and saddened by the senseless and inhuman killings of the cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo. To kill people who live in a democracy and who choose to exercise their freedom and expression is wicked and terrible. No words can express the outrage and grief of people throughout the world. We are all at risk from these fanatical terrorists who seem to be growing in strength and spreading their poisonous tentacles in different countries. We should all be vigilant at all times. as none of us are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones of all those who died at the hands of these cold, arrogant assasins.
My sincere condolences to the French people at this sad time. We must all stand together to protect our freedom. Vive le liberte.
Pour tous les Francais
I wish to express my deepest sympathy and solidarity with you in this time of great trial and sadness.
France has been a true friend to our people here; I recall the Battle of Penang in this 100th year since World War 1 where your destroyer, Mousquet, went in pursuit of the German destroyer, Emden, which made a surprise attack at the harbour at George Town in the small hours of 28 October 1914, and made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of freedom.
Having friends in France, I feel belong in fraternity, and I pray for the repose of the souls of all those killed wontonly in Paris in the last few days and for their families and friends, strength and comfort.
By standing together, "Nous sommes tous Charlie," may we encourage and continue in our own ways the work of all who put themselves in the frontline to defend the right of people everywhere to life and freedom of thought and expression.
With deepest sympathy
My heart is with you and I shall never forget.
To all the people of France,
Deepest Sympathy to all the Families of the murdered who were totally innocent & just going about their daily work. May they rest in peace. These barbarians will never execute "Freedom of Speech" or eradicate it in the Western world. "JE SUIS CHARLIE " & there are Millions of us! God Bless the Families & people of France.
We are all with you.
I’d like to send my condolences to the families and friends of the people killed by the terrorists.
I send my best wishes to the people of France and encourage you to stay strong.
I would like to thank the police and security services everywhere for doing their utmost to protect people.
United we Stand.
My condolences for the deaths of the journalists, cartoonists and staff and
police officers over the last two days. The atrocity was not only against
the people of France, but all democratic countries with a tradition of free
speech. Long live Charlie Hedbo! And long live its fearless spirit.
Je Suis Charlie.
I would like to express my condolences and say I am sorry for the terrorism that you are experiencing at this current time which is wrong. I pray that those who are causing the acts are caught quickly and safely.
I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to your country over the awful atrocities that are currently happening. It has been a shock to the whole world and I cannot comprehend what is happening to our world. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this awful what can only be described as madness. RIP to all the innocent people who have suffered at the hands of terrorists.
My sincerest condolences go to everyone affected by the tragic events that have occurred at Charlie Hebdo, the freedom of expression is something we take for granted in our society and to have it challenged is a massive and awful shock.
I pray to God that He is with the friends and families of those who lost their lives and with everyone who has been affected by the attack, I pray that France as a whole are able to unite with each other in recognition of those who lost their lives, I also pray that Europe and the rest of the world stand firmly with France during this difficult time. I pray that over time peace can be found over these events and that hatred doesn’t eat up the families and friends of those who lost their lives, I pray that the good times are remembered with their loved ones and are not forgotten in the midst of the anger felt towards what happened.
I pray that God blesses France and those affected.
Deep respect and appreciation for the bravery and the democratic stand for freedom to all the fallen and to their families and the citizens of France.
I wish to express my most profound condolences for all who were killed and injured in these outrageous attacks, and more widely to France and all the people of France who have been so movingly affected.
The only consolation is that it strengthens our solidarity and resolve to protect fundamental liberties.
They will never destroy our the values that the British and French people hold dear.
We send all our sympathy. This is not an attack on France but on the whole of Western democracy. Sadly we are at war and Britain and France are allies in this war.
Please accept my deepest condolences to the families and to the French people for the grief you are suffering caused by the terrible events unfolding at this time. I and my family have close links going back many years with France and know the effect it is having on our friends and all the French people. We must stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and stand tall in support of our democratic right to freedom of expression without fear. Vive Charlie Hebdo! Vive la France!
My sincere condolences
My thoughts and prayers are with all French people at this very difficult time.
I just wanted to express how proud I am of the people of France and the bravery of its journalists.
I have watched with shock and horror at the acts carried out by fanatics in your country and I want to express that while I am myself English I believe that today we are all French.
My deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives
To all those who where brutally killed and the family and friends left behind, we would like to extend to you our prayers at this dark time. May your Gods go with you.
A message of condolence to all those affected in this terrible attack, may all those injured get better soon and may the families of all those killed be comforted. I must say I am ashamed that people with who, I unfortunately share my faith with were responsible for this horrendous attack. God bless all those who died in this attack.
Sincere condolences. To the families of the people so ruthlessly killed and to all the people of France, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this tragic time.

I have sent this poem to the French people in the hope it will bring succour to their hearts.
We have lived in France for 25 years. You have all our sympathy . Please make sure that your politicians rise above petty squabbling, This dreadful crime has disturbed everyone in France whatever their political opinions. This must be recognised and no political capital made out of this tragedy.
We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy for the French people and in particular the families of the victims of this week’s horrific events.
Our deepest sympathies to all the victims of this outrageous crime, freedom of speech is a cornerstone of democracy and should never be threatened in any way.

With deepest sympathy
Deeply sad for the French people and especially the families of the innocent victims. May the French people stay strong and free.
I actually did a delivery to 58 Knightsbridge in July 1982. As I pulled away the bomb went off. Nearly 32 years later innocent people are still getting killed. I hope these will be the last.
Please know every normal citizen in Europe is supporting France in dealing with these appalling attacks on the freedom and culture of all of us. The countries of Europe must all work together in eradicating this threat to our civilized societies. As someone who has lived through 30 years and more of IRA terrorism in Belfast, I truly despair. The big difference here is that these fanatics are more than happy to lose their own lives in trying to destroy society, which the IRA never were.
Thoughts are with the French people and their public outrage against these attacks. We are beside you and holding your hands.
The pen has to be mightier than the sword "Je suis Charlie".
I wish to express mine and my family’s deepest condolences to all of the victims friends and family’s. We send our heart felt love, strength and courage to all of France. We stand with you France. Terrorism will never win. Stand tall.
To all in Francais affected by the dreadful actions of a few this week I send my heartfelt sympathy and best wishes to all those affected, especially the families and special thoughts for your Police officers as a UK officer myself
So very sadden to hear and learn of the events in Paris and surrounding areas … all our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased family, friends, work colleagues and to those very brave law enforcers whom have dealt with this vicious cowardly attack of violence on unarmed innocent people.
The world must unite to defend itself.
Vive la France. Vive la Liberte. Vive Paix Dans Le Monde.
My wholehearted sympathies go out to everyone in France. We are with you. We shall stand together to wipe out this cancer.
My thoughts are with the people of France and my prayers are with the families of the victims.
The tragic and terrible events in and around Paris remind us Londoners how very close we feel particularly to Parisians ( and France of course ) not just geographically but emotionally too and how in reality we totally identify with France and the French people in terms of our shared culture destiny and duty to defend our way of life and that of all free and civilized people against all tyranny and terrorism . As survivors of the Mumbai terrorist attack on the Taj Mahal hotel my wife and I know how much we owe to the police and security services in defending us from evil fanatics and extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to all the families of the victims.
On behalf of all the colleagues of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park, we would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of these barbaric attacks.
Charlie Hebdo n’est PAS mort, Vive Charlie Hebdo et Vive la France !
I as a citizen of Great Britain wish to send my love, warmth and best wishes to all those effected by the terrible acts of evil that have happened.
We stand with you shoulder to shoulder at this time, we are united. Be strong.x
My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the brave men and women who have been murdered and injured.
It is so sad that freedom of speech as a cornerstone of our civilisation has been attacked, taking with it and harming the lives of innocent people and causing shockwaves of sadness throughout our whole world.
I give thanks to God for the bravest security forces and their support services and Mr. Hollande who have put an end to this episode of madness.
My family and I offer our sincere condolences and solidarity to the people of France following the brutal and cowardly attack on liberty and freedom of speech. Terrorists who try to inflict their warped and evil philosophy will never win and the world will unite strongly to uphold democracy and the right to have our own opinions. Vive La France. Nous sommes Charlie.
I wish to express my deepest sympathy to those families who have lost loved ones this week in Paris.
Vive la France
The Tricolour and Union Jack share their colours, just as we share the same ideals in our minds and hearts.
Liberté • Égalité • Fraternité
We grieve with you, and we stand with you.
What’s happened is deeply saddening and horrible to imagine, my heart goes out to those sadly passed and those affected by the attacks. Hopefully this will make France and the world stronger! My condolences from Nottingham UK,
On behalf of the International Association of Women Police, I wish to offer condolences from our Association to the families of the Police Officers killed during the massacre. In particular, the young policewoman. Her death will be commemorated at the opening ceremony of our annual conference to be held in Wales this August.
Police Officers are public servants wherever they serve, but being killed on duty is absolutely terrible. We fellow officers feel it as it could so easily have been any one of us. May they never be forgotten.
I am deeply saddened by the recent events in France. Such a tragedy. Those amazing men and women will be sorely missed. Rest in peace and may your spirit never falter.
My thoughts are with all those involved with the recent events, their families and friends, we will not forget those who have died or been injured; God bless you all.
Freedom of Speech is essential to our democracy and we shall all strive to maintain this fundamental right.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
Je suis Charlie
Our deepest condolences to the French people on this very tragic, horrific and savage incident.
Our hearts go out to you.
We will not be silenced. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers
Nous sommes Charlie.
OG & JM
I wish my deepest sympathy and condolences to France and especially the families of the victims and of course the victims. I would like them to know that where ever we may be, free thinking people will not stand for any attack on freedom.
An ordinary British subject sends his solidarity to all French citizens, whose country has suffered such grievous attacks this week. My thoughts are with you and, in particular, with the families of the people who have been killed or injured.
United we stand against tyranny, divided we fall.
The grief we feel in the UK is also accompanied by our support of the French Government and its people in this difficult time. We love your country and its people and will return soon .This act will not deter us as we will NEVER surrender to these barbaric people. May your God comfort you all.
I send my condolences to the families, colleagues and friends of the brave journalists, cartoonists, policemen and policewomen who lost their lives defending la liberté in France and, by extension, the rest of the world.
In addition, my condolences to the families of the murdered hostages.
Finally, I would like to express my admiration for the bravery and skill of French police and special forces who brought the very complex linked hostage situations to an end so professionally.
Vive la France!
I went to Paris on Tuesday 6th January, stayed overnight in a charming hotel almost under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower and then spent the next day enjoying a stroll with some Russian friends, along the Seine, through the Tuileries, by the Louvre and then towards the Madeleine. I first became aware that something might be really wrong at about 2pm, because there were so many blue lights flashing everywhere. Then I received a text message from my wife who had been watching the news at home in England. Later as I caught up with the news I learnt of the full horror of what had just taken place.
I cannot tell you how appalled I am by this atrocity and wish to convey my deepest condolences. I have never known a time when I have felt a deeper or more intense feeling of solidarity and sympathy with France and her citizens. My thoughts are with you and with all who have been stricken by this tragedy.
I wish to express my condoleances to France and to the people’s families who have been murdered within France in these last few days.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5)
Vive la France
A brave magazine. Long may it continue to publish satirical comment on all religions.
We would like to express our deepest sympathy to and solidarity with the people of France after the terrorist killings in Paris.
Vous avez voulu tuer Charlie... vous l’avez rendu immortel !!!
Notre démocracie ne capitule pas.
France has suffered worse things, and survived. It will survive this, and so will its commitment to free speech.
I am with you, France.
My wife and I are utterly appalled and deeply shocked by the atrocity on Wednesday .
We send our deepest sympathy to all those who have , in any way, been affected by this dreadful and horrific event and we send our strong support to all those whose task it is or has been to find the perpetrators.
The rise in the number of incidents like this is the responsibility of the those of us living in a free society.
Our thoughts are with the people of France
Words cannot express how I feel. This was a terrible attack on innocent people.
My heart goes out to the families and the French people.
Nous sommes Charlie
I would like to express my condolences and solidarity to the French people. My sympathies to the families of those who were killed and I wish a speedy recovery for those injured. I would also like to express my admiration for the way that the French authorities - government, security services and police - have dealt with this horrific event.
Let’s hope that freedom of speech wins out in the end.
I stand with France in the defence of liberty and freedom of speech. Deepest condolences to the families of all those innocent people affected by the events in Paris.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Paris and all those involved in the terrible events in Paris this week.
Vive la liberté! I stand with you, je suis Charlie!
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to: the families of those killed and injured in the outrage committed against the offices of Charlie Hebdo this Wednesday; and to the people of France.
Human life, freedom of expression and the tolerance of others’ difference are all precious.
Vive la Republique! Vive la France!
I went to school in France. My son and his family have lived in Paris for 10 years. So I have been very touched by all the recent events. My prayers are for all the families affected.
My heart goes out to all affected by these terrible outrages not only to the families of those who have died but to all caught up in any way whatsoever. It is my privilege to work with many French colleagues here in London - please let it be known that we are thinking of all the people in France with our love and deepest sympathy.
My condolences to those bereaved in these terrible attacks. We must absolutely protect the right to subject anyone and everyone’s opinions and beliefs to criticism, debate, satire and mockery. Otherwise the last four centuries have been a waste of time and we will retreat into the deepest darkness.
My prayers are with the families and friends of all those who died and for the people of France. The pen is mightier than the sword. Vive la Liberte
I don’t know what to say, except my deepest sympathies go to family and friends of all who were lost and the people of France. I sit here in my home in Canada knowing I am somewhat safe from the terror that is visited on many others, and I am so sorry. I heard about the massacre and cried. I realize my crying is of no practical use, but it’s all I have to give. That, and my words.
We stand by your side, we share your sadness, we will help you to overcome.
Deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones, you are in our thoughts.
I wish to express sincere condolences for the barbarous acts of terrorism committed in and around Paris this week. I have, in the past, visited Paris frequently and love this city. To think that this most beautiful city could be the background to such acts appals and sickens me.
I hope that the families, friends and colleagues of those murdered can take some small amount of comfort by knowing that the civilised world stands firm behind them.
Vive la France, Vive La Liberte
Please carry my heartfelt condolences for those who have lost their lives in the last few days from this shocking terror attack. I am so upset to hear this news as of course the world is. My thoughts are with the loved ones, family and friends who remain, and of course a whole nation that is in mourning and in shock.
It is hard to feel strong when the very foundations on which we stand are crumbled beneath our feet and it is hard to get a grip onto such fearful realities. However we come together from all faiths and stand united in such times. We hold hands and as one we are a strong foundation that can not be destroyed.
With thoughts, love and prayers for peace,
My deepest sympathies to the French People.
I know you will not let this deflect you from the principles of democracy and free speech
Je Suis Charlie! Vive La France!
With sincere sympathy to the families and friends of all those who have been killed or injured in the three days of terrorist attacks. Nous sommes tous Charlie.
To the courageous members of the police who have countered these attacks and put themselves in the line of fire despite the merciless murder or wounding of their colleagues, our thanks.
I have always loved your culture, your language, your spirit.
In the last 3 days those things so essential to the French way of life - liberty, equality and fraternity - have been tested in the cruelest and most vicious of ways. I have watched as your democracy and freedoms have been brutalised and I have cried for you.
Please know that tonight, as you mourn those who have fallen, that I am so so proud of you and your continued resistance and spirit.
Those who lost their lives - not only the lovely Charlie Hebdo cartoonists but the janitor, the editor, the copywriter... all of the victims of the last 3 days - did not die in vain but are heroes to the great motto of France
’Liberté, égalité, fraternité’.
Stay strong. So many of us applaud your courage, your strength, your spirit. Those who have threatened your freedom will never win. We stand with you.
Nous sommes Charlie.
Much love to you France.
I write to express my shock and sorrow at this outrage, and condolences to those who have lost family friends and colleagues.
It will be a tribute to the memory of those who were killed if we can unite in determination to maintain the values which they represented. We are Charlie.
Please accept my condolences for the tragedy that has unfolded in Paris.
God will never forgive those that incite, or apply extreme violence in order to make a complaint.
It is not for anyone MOSLEM or otherwise to decide what is blasphemous.
God gave everyone the gift of life.
God gave NO ONE the right to take his gift away from that person to whom it was given.
Je Suis Charlie.
The people of France have proved that the pen (and pencil) remains mightier than the sword. Your bravery and resilience is an example to us all and a credit to democracy and freedom of speech.
Please accept my sympathy for your loss, and my thanks to your nation for your love of liberty, tolerance, and mockery
So sorry. Thinking of the families concerned—and of France.
Sending our love, admiration and condolences to the French people. We stand in solidarity with our French friends in our struggle for freedom, as we have done in the past.
Our prayers are with those who have lost loved ones,
From two English friends in London,
To the families of the victims of this horrific crime I send my deepest and sincere condolences and sympathy. Words cannot express the sadness I feel for all of you.
The UK stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of France, the terrorists will NEVER win.
Vive La France
Je suis Charlie
To the families, friends and colleagues of those whose lives were so brutally ended in recent days, and to the people of France, I send my deepest condolences and prayers. Know that we stand with you always in defence of democracy and freedom.
Vive la France.
As a grown man of 56 I was so appalled by the news of the atrocities at Charlie Hebdo that I found myself in tears this afternoon. This barbaric act of pure evil cannot be the act of any religious or moral person, and I extend my condolences to all those affected.
I would like to offer my condolences. It was a barbaric attack on peoples right to express themselves.
We have all been attacked by these evil barbarians and should stand together in solidarity against this assault on freedom of expression. My heartfelt condolences.
My thoughts are with the people of France at this time. Murder and terror should not be the way to argue a case or point of view. Standing with you for peaceful, loving, understanding values; for hope, compassion, tolerance and unity.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
My wife and I, together with countless millions of people in the civilised world, have been moved and uplifted by France’s determined and dignified response to religious fascism.
We feel great sorrow for the victims and families of these psychotic and barbaric attacks; we offer you all our deepest sympathy and condolences; and we stand united with you in defence of freedom of speech, religious tolerance, education and enlightenment, and humane law and justice.
The French people will be very much in our thoughts for many days to come.
With love and kind regards,
I would like to express my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the recent outrages in Paris, in particular at the offices of Charlie Hebdo. I have many happy memories of my times spent in France and want to express my deepest sympathies to the French people. I hope that the government and people of France continue to uphold the sacred and noble democratic ideal so movingly expressed by Voltaire and all that is best in the French Republic.
As a UK citizen I would like to offer my own and my family’’s condolences? to all the French people and in particular those directly involved in this awful terrorist attack. The pen is mightier than the sword and we all stand united with the people of France who are people of all faiths. The French nation has shown much dignity and has our respect.
We wish to express our great sadness and sincere condolences after the events of the last few days.
We love Paris and France and were deeply saddened by what has happened.
Alongside my Children and Grandchildren, who stand in Solidarity with me - both here in Britain and in France -
I send our Love and Deepest Sympathy to the Families and Friends of all so brutally and senselessly murdered in Paris.
Words cannot describe our Sorrow nor our Outrage at these Unspeakable acts.

I’d like to express my deep sorrow over the terrible events in France this week. As in Madrid in 2004 and London in 2005, atrocities like this will show the world the strength of the French people and their unshakable resolve to protect liberty and free speech.
Vive la France!
Please accept our heartfelt condolence to both France and the families and loved ones of those brutally slain in the terror attack.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them
With deepest sympathy for the loss of life. And my great respect for the French people. We must all stand firm in the face of these attacks on our way of life and strive to uphold our european values of tolerance, democracy, respect for minorities and freedom of speech.
Nous sommes tous France. Nous sommes avec vous! Soyez fort mes amies x
I write to express my deepest sympathy for recent events in Paris. I am shocked and deeply sad. Vive la Liberte.
Je suis Charlie.
There are no words to express the horror at the evil that has occurred in France in the last three days.
But please know that there is no man nor woman in the civilised world that does not share your grief, and a determination to stand up to this barbarism. I know my country, the United Kingdom, and I am sure every other country in our Western civilisation and beyond, will stand with France.
In all of history, France has been, and is, a beacon of light. Let that noble heritage guide your country through the difficult days ahead.
Et, bien sur, je suis Charlie.
Yours in friendship and shared grief.
I visited Paris with my family between Christmas and New year and had the most wonderful time , one falls in love with Paris each you are there . It is the most magical city and it is with horror and sadness that I have watched the terror unfold .......
An injury to Paris and Parisians is an injury to London and Londoners ... We do not stand behind you we stand next to you shoulder to shoulder as our fellow European brothers and sisters .
Vive La France
I was very shocked and still nearly tease about this terror attack.
The world is never be the same after this.
As a German living in London I can say how ideologie can bring people in a wrong direction.
I feel with all families, friends, collegues and everybody who know and loved this innocents people.
Hope that they will find finally peace one day.
Be strong I wish all the best for you.
My thoughs are with you...I very sorry
My feelings go out to all the good people of Charlie Hebdo the police officers and all the other innocent victims, of this cruel and savage attack. Also my sympathies to the families and friends of all the victims
I’m so very sorry. Four very insigificant words but they are heart-felt and genuine.
What else can anyone say, except that you’re all in our thoughts.
I am heartbroken that your wonderful, peaceful, loving citizens have died in the events over the past few days at the hands of these barbaric people. I hope and pray that peace and safety will return to France very soon. My love, thoughts & prayers are with you all. God Bless each and every one of you. I am Charlie. Je Suis Charlie.
It is difficult to express in words our thoughts at this very sad time. We are all deeply affected by the terrible events in France yesterday and today and we extend our most profound condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives. We will be visiting Paris next month and hope that the citizens of France know that they have friends in the UK.
Our thoughts from the UK are with you France We must all stand strong together against this new evil which threatens the whole of Europe
We hold hands with you across La Manche in your hour of need.
I have never contacted anyone involved in any disaster.
I have never been so disgusted.
Needed to e-mail, to express my solidarity with France.
How can citizens who are educated, nurtrured by the country they live in have so much hatred they, take life so easily?
Good will ALWAYS overcome evil.
Heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the innocent victims of this barbaric outrage.
Our peoples stood together against tyranny in the past, we do so again now and we always will.
Primitive extremism masquerading as one of the world’s great religions will never destroy the freedom, social justice, tolerance and respect for others which our forefathers fought so hard to achieve and bequeath to us.
So it is Friday evening now. What a week. I was very upset by the awful events on Wednesday. At our small stockbroking firm in London we have two lovely French people. We and our clients were upset for them; and for Paris and France. I heard someone on the news say "the DNA of Paris". I liked that, as I sensed that this week too. The DNA of Paris as an organism. Standing for something strong and powerful, democratic, reactionary, vital, enlightened, female. I’ve been trying to read Hugo’s Les Miserables for 3 years. I’m 76% through it. I sense in that book what I sensed in Paris, looking as I have from Cambridge and London. I think you could feel it in London, and London admiring Paris back, as a brother, or sister. You sometimes squabble withher, but really you know damn well that they are pretty awesome, fearless, and well learned. You think New York will get it too in a hundred years or so; but its still the brash youngster to its older European relatives. Paris hurts and London knows; and puts its forehead against your capital in companionship. Lots of love to Paris and a salute to The French Republic.
We would like to offer our condolences and respect following the the callous murder of your citizens and friends during this week’s terrorists attacks.
Freedom and democracy will prevail and we the people of the UK will always support you.
My heart goes out to the people of France at this horrific time. My thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of the victims of these wicked and senseless attacks.
My heartfelt condolences to the staff and families of the brave Charlie Hebdo journalists, the police and all those affected by the events of the past few days. To our friends in France: we stand with you, we grieve with you, we will always support you.
There are some days when I don’t like the world we live in. Wednesday was one of them. The horrific scenes in Paris can never and should never be forgotten. But the response of people across the globe has been truly heartwarming and can surely help the French nation to slowly recover.
My thoughts are with the families of those murdered and injured in the attacks, and also those who witnessed them.
Thinking of all the family and friends of those affected by events in France. Stay stong and united. Freedom of speech is the essence of life!
Peace and healing to all
London and Paris united
I wish to express my sadness at events in Paris, and express my solidarity with the French people. We will never cowed by extremism or violence, and the British people will stand with you, always.
As an Englishman and a police officer my heart has wept over the tragic events of the past few days and I offer my deepest sympathises to all those effected by devastation that has occurred in Paris. You have shown the world that you will not be bullied into submission. We stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with you, our friends, our brothers and sisters ready to stop those who would seek to terrorise and oppress free speech and the right to live in safety. And to all those men and women in law enforcement, you are truly amazing heroes who put the safety of others before yourself. Vive la France, you will never be beaten.
I would like to send my condolences to all the family and friends of the poor victims of these terrorist attacks and a speedy recovery to those that have been injured. I congratulate the brave Police Officers and Military personnel for their professionalism and fortitude in such a difficult operation and for bringing it to a speedy conclusion.
Well done France for being firm !!!!!
With profound feelings of sadness and empathy for the victims and people of France at this time. The values and freedoms of France must not be overcome by the deluded and morally bankrupt.
Vive la France forever!
I would like to express my deep sadness about the terrible events over the last two days. We find it so hard to understand how such young people become murderers of innocent people and in the end destroy their own lives, but we must invest in protecting them from radicalisation. My thoughts are with the survivors and the friends and family of those who died and I pray that in the coming months and years some good will come from the tragedy.
We the British people and those who believe that free speech does not justify violence, stand with the people of France and all those that want to build a world based on respect, tolerance and liberty. Our thought are with the family and loved ones of those at Charlie Hebdou.
Please know that your English friends stand shoulder to shoulder with you at this terrible time. Terrorists must not be allowed to silence freedom of speech. Condolences are sent to the family and friends of all those who were killed, and very best wishes for a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
We stand with our friends in France in their hour of sorrow.
I would like to take a moment to recognise the bravery of all those who worked on Charlie Hebdo and who have lost their lives. I think they did know the risks they were taking and they kept on taking them .We owe them and all those who loved them a huge debt of gratitude.
Their deaths have brought into sharp focus just how important freedom is and how important it is that we now stand together against those who would smother it.
I am proud to be British, proud to be European, proud to be a citizen of the world. We are all one. Unfortunately there are a few people in this world who do not like freedom and democracy. Dear France, your citizens have not died in vain. France has stood upto freedom. Vive La France.
My heart goes out to the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack and their families – and I send my sincere condolences to them and to the people of France. Freedom of expression is a fundamental pillar of democratic society, and all the Charlie Hebdo victims, the police officers and those who died in the other terrorist incidents today have paid the ultimate price. This makes me so sad. We must not let extremism and terrorism intimidate us into giving up our freedom in the name of so-called security.
The world stands with you in solidarity and defiance.
Vive la Liberté.
Je suis Charlie.
JE SUIS CHARLIE .
At 71 years old I feel with great emotion being in utter unisson with that extraordinary reaction wich spontaneously drew an immense crowd of young people to join in one big gathering, not only in each town and village square in France , but in London too and it so appears all over the world (nearly) .
In the same spirit when, over 20 years ago tidal wave’s forces empowered the young Germans to impressively muster at the foot of the Berlin Wall and break through the Iron gates of deprivation of human dignity.
This is what humanity is about.
Note that in Paris they did not gather on the Champs Elysee nor sur la Place de la Concorde. Non! They took the metro all the way east to la Place de la Republique, the lieu-dit of La Bastille,La Revolution,Liberte, Egalite ,Fraternite proclaimed and stood there all night in stark vigil candle in hands and holding make-do placards where stood in brilliant defiance 3 hand written words: JE SUIS CHARLIE.
Lost in the overwhelming confusion of the world politics/economics I had forgotten and not realised how those three principles were so strongly alive not only among those young French people of 2015 but prized by all the young people of the world.
Charlie Hebdo :I abhore .I bought it once to throw it away. It is ’sadistically’ provocatif, indecent, crual, coarse. Unlike Le Canard Enchaine or The Spectator, it is not ’subtle’ , it is not witty, it is sarcastic in the most crude way; same vernacular used by bullying kids to destroy their peers.
However this is called FREEDOM OF THE PRESS.
However this is MY opinion and it is up to me [ my freedom ] to buy or not to buy the piece.
This is called INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM (230 years old).
In shooting those media people, they shot me
Their aim is to eradicate 10.000 years of human evolution
Their target is to smother MY FREEDOM , OUR FREEDOM.
This is why I, like all those beautiful people down in the streets, I AM CHARLIE...........too.
We wish to express our sincere sorrow to those who have lost their lives in France and our solidarity to stand alongside you to resist the forces of extremism that strive to wipe out free speech.
There is one abiding thing that the terrorist will never understand about us. It is that we breathe the clear air of a society that tolerates free speech and expression. It is the highly oxygenated value that defines and distinguishes us. It represents the fabric of our solidarity built upon centuries of evolution for wisdom and compassion. In Britain we are now French as you have been for us. Together, with our families within the free world, we embrace our values and pledge our oath that no force will ever overcome them or us.
Je suis Écossais, Je suis desolé, Je suis Charlie. Tonight my thoughts are with you across the seas in France and I grieve with you for your loss. We must all be Charlie now or darkness will win.
My heart goes out to those killed and injured in the last three days. French people, our nations stand united to defend the values we believe in and which these fanatic terrorists and murderers fear so badly. They will not win!
My condolences to the bereaved, my heart is full of sorrow for their sad loss.
To the injured, my warmest wishes for their return to health.
British people stand together with the people of France in our determination to protect our hard won freedoms and democratic rights. "Nous Sommes Charlie", "We Are Charlie".
I would like to express my condolences to the families of 12 people assasinnées
Charlie Hebdo, the municipal police and the victims of the supermarket cowardly killed by these bloodthirsty thugs who dare to use the Quran as a result of their barbaric acts because I am not a Muslim but I know that no religion has called death!
He killed my childhood idols (Cabu, Wolinski, Charb), the police officer (s) and innocent!
They thought killing Charlie Hebdo, freedom of the press and thought with the RIGHT criticized, mocked and laughed at everything and everyone and although it missed LOSER and it’s quite the opposite!
Please accept my deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the French people and the French Government. This was nothing more than premeditated murder and a sheer affront to a country which values liberty so much. The French people have shown their defiance and resolve against the murderous scum and I stand with them. The French Security Forces showed great courage and resolve in ending the situation and should be admired for their actions.
I pray for a speedy recovery for all the wounded and for the families of those who were murdered.
We are all Charlie.
We all need to remain Charlie.
I can’t really find the words to express what I feel.
God bless you all. Peace, freedom and love will prevail.
My deepest condolences to those families in France who have lost their loved ones in this terrorist attack. You are not alone. Our countries will always stand united in the face of terror.
My condolences to everyone affected by this shocking act of terrorism, particularly to the family of Ahmed Merabet.
I want to express my profound sadness at what has happened in your beautiful country over the past two days. My thoughts are with those who have lost their lives, those who have been injured, and their families, and I admire the way in which you have so proudly and bravely faced the situation.
You are a shining light to Europe and the rest of the world as you continue to champion and protect the original beliefs of your Republic.
Liberty will never be beaten by those who don’t understand freedom. Carry on holding up the lamp of freedom to light up the world.
We are all Charlie.
Long live the Republic!
My family and I wish to pass our sincere sympathy to all the Families concerned on this cowardly attack. They died for the freedom of all people to express their opinions. Keep
strong and may your God go with you.
As an Englishman I would like to say that I stand head and shoulders with the people of Paris. The recent barbarous acts were an affront to the very stalwarts of a democratic nation and as such I denounce them and the people who think this is an acceptable way to act. I wish to offer my sympathies to the families of those that have lost loved ones as a result of these acts.
I am appalled by the disgusting criminal massacres committed by these bigoted zealots who want to snuff out free speech. The sentence of Raif Badawi’ to a thousand lashes shows where such vile and extreme ideology leads to, unless free peoples stand up and are counted.
Vive La Republique Francaise – Liberte, Egalite et Fraternite.
Je suis Charlie.
My sincere sympathy to the families of all those who died in the tragic events in Paris. To kill unarmed people is neither brave nor heroic. Freedom is so precious, and the real heroes are those who protect it on our behalf by their writings. "The pen is mightier than the sword".
As a patriotic Englishman, I am very proud, in the week of Charlie Hebdo, also to bear a surname of French origin.
I don’t think it it chauvinistic to say that, over the centuries, our two countries have done more to advance the cause of Liberty, and particularly freedom of expression, than any others.
This week, France has paid a high price for this . I salute the brave journalists of Charlie Hebdo.
I would like to offer my sincere condolences for the terrible attack your country has endured. My heart is with the people of France.
I wish to express my condolences to all people of France whom I love and admire;
My wife and I, who have lived and loved being in France for many years, send our deepest condolences to all those bereaved by these atrocious actions. Our prayers are with them.
We were devastated to learn of the murders in Paris of the Charlie Hebdo journalists, of innocent policeman, and hostages. It is difficult to comprehend how - with their values and enforcement by the gun - these extremists can build societies in this century that produce happy citizens. Devastating and deeply depressing.
Please do accept our condolences. I work in the book trade here in the UK, where Freedom of Speech and Expression is a key driver. I think the people of Paris have been amazing in the way that they have reacted to these atrocities.
I am afraid that the UK and other European countries are going to experience this year similar outrages. London has had its share of Islamic extremism and IRA terrorism in the past. I am sure that in the future we shall demonstrate the same maturity and reaction that the peoples of France have recently expressed.
On behalf of my entire Family who have spent so many pleasurable years in France: We send our love and condolences to all affected by the savage murderous behaviour of Jihadists and pray that the French people will rise up against futile attempts to gag democracy.
May the innocents victims forever Rest in Peace.
I would like to offer my condolences to the family and loved ones of the innocents murdered by the terrorists. I would also like to send my total support to the people of France.
Freedom of speech and a free press are the fundamentals of democracy. Our thoughts are with you at this most difficulty of times.
France is a strong country with strong democratic principles- a defender of freedom. The majority of UK citizens stand side by side with France at this time and in the fight against an evil which has to be fought. Islamic extremism is a real evil of this age and will go on unless we unite to halt it. I have had the privilege, in my past career, to work closely with the French Authorities on strategic contingency planning. My thoughts are with France in the aftermath of these terrible attacks.
Je Suis Charlie
To the families and friends of the victims and to the whole of France I offer my condolences in this very difficult week. Whilst the pain you are feeling will eventually ease, the shock that someone has found it necessary to take up arms against a group of people armed only with pens and their wit will take longer to reconcile, if ever. Do not let the barbarians extinguish the Light of Freedom of Speech, Thought or Deed. The only martyrs in these events are those that have died in upholding the freedoms the murderers enjoyed but failed to respect in others.
I am as angry and upset about this event as I would have been if Private Eye in London had been the target. The courage of the Charlie Hebdo satirists and staff was so wonderful - I am ashamed of my own cowardice by comparison. I live in a free society and yet these dim-witted religious nutters make me afraid to put up a ’Je suis Charlie’ poster in my window in case some fool torches my house.
I would like all newspapers in the free world to agree to publish the cartoons (about some bloke who died hundreds of years ago) on their front pages - we should show the thugs that we won’t be robbed of our freedom by their ridiculously irrational beliefs.
On behalf of my family here in Scotland I send to the people of France our heart-felt condolences for the brave Charlie Hebdo victims of this vile and cowardly attack. This was an attack on all our treasured freedoms.
We especially sympathise with the families and friends of the deceased men, including the families of those brave Gendarmes.
For us, this attack serves to reinvigorate our support for the freedom of other Writers, Cartoonists, and Caricaturists who have the courage to continue to represent our European ideals. Je suis Charlie.
Please accept my condolences to the French people for the terrible incidents this week in Paris.
I hope that France will emerge stronger and more tolerant than ever from a nightmare.
Our most profound condolences to the people of France and especially to the families and friends of those unforgivably slaughtered by utterly deranged maniacs.
I first visited France (then in my twenties with my wife and two young children, on holiday camping) 50 years ago. We have returned on numerous occasions since.
My father was a surgeon in the RAMC during WWII, and came ashore in Normandy, D-Day landings.
My perceptions of France and the French people have indelibly accumulated since my childhood. Very special, you are. Vive la France
I express my condolences for all who were killed and injured in this shocking attack, and more widely to the people of the world who have been so movingly affected.
I hope that this deplorable act strengthens the unity and resolve to protect primary liberty in our world.
Please give my sincere sympathies to all those affected by the events of the past few days. I cannot imagine the distress, terror, horror....all of this for people who were just going about their business.
To be murdered for daring to write....c’est incroyable.
Je suis Charlie.
Dear People of France,
Terrorists are cowards.
French people are heroes.
Viva la difference.
Angleterre feels your pain and we send our condolences.
Condolences to the people of France & the families of those killed in the recent attacks. In particular to the families of the 3 Police Officers killed in the line of duty from a fellow UK Policeman. The French nation has shown once again their courage in the face of adversity. Stand fast Europe.
« Je suis Charlie » et je suis "Français" dans l’esprit. Nous britanniques sommes ensemble avec nos bons voisins toujours, et vous garder dans nos pensées et nos prières. Vive La France!
It is with great sadness that because of the desire to destroy free speech so many have been killed both those who were producing the magazine and those protecting them along with others who were attacked simply because of who they were.
This is not simply an attack on a French publication but an attack on everyone who wishes to be able to think and speak freely.
May the families find solace in the outpouring of grief and anger at these acts and the clear failure to “kill” the magazine.
Restons forts, restons ensemble.
Même pas peur!!
Je suis Charlie
Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. It makes it all the more tragic that it should be the scene of the most horrific murders conducted by heartless and very misguided terrorists.
Please be assured that the people of Britain want to show complete solidarity with the people of France at this terrible time.
We love your country as much as you do.
You are in our thoughts during this ordeal which France and the people of Paris never deserved.
With my deepest sympathy and eternal friendship.
I too have been sickened and saddened with the events of Charlie Hebdo this week and I join with many others here in the UK in sending my condolences to the people of Paris, most especially of course, to the poor unfortunates who were directly involved and have lost friends and family.
Condolences to all the people of France from everyone who believes in the principles of free speech. These barbarians will not defeat you.
I wish to express my sincere condolences on the dreadful deaths in Paris.
It is my profound hope that the liberties of western democracies embodied by the French constitution will survive this barbaric attack.
Je suis Charlie
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the people killed. I wish those injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with the people of France and we will stand by you. Je suis Charlie.
Je Suis CHARLIE.
With warm regards.
JMR & Family
We wish to offer our condolences. All civilised people must stand strong together. Mr & Mrs Green, England.
To the people of France, I send my Sincere Condolences, Please stay strong and not be bowed.
