New face of French government

On 18 March, President Sarkozy presented the new French government. It includes six new Ministers of State, some of whom will be working in new areas such as the development of the capital city region. The portfolios of some Ministers and Ministers of State have also changed.

Six new Ministers of State

M. Christian Blanc: Minister of State responsible for the Development of the Capital City Region, attached to the Ministre d’Etat, Minister for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning (Regional Development);

M. Hubert Falco: Minister of State responsible for Town and Country Planning (Regional Development), attached to the Ministre d’Etat, Minister for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning (Regional Development);

Mme Anne-Marie Idrac: Minister of State responsible for Foreign Trade, attached to the Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment;

M. Yves Jégo: Minister of State responsible for Overseas France, attached to the Minister of the Interior, Overseas France and Local Authorities;

M. Alain Joyandet: Minister of State responsible for Cooperation and Francophony, attached to the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs; and

Mme Nadine Morano: Minister of State responsible for the Family, attached to the Minister for Labour, Labour Relations and Solidarity.

Ministers of State whose portfolios have changed

M. Laurent Wauquiez becomes Minister of State responsible for Employment, attached to the Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment;

M. Luc Chatel becomes Minister of State responsible for Industry, attached to the Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment; he will also be Government Spokesman;

M. Eric Besson becomes Minister of State responsible for Forward Planning, Assessment of Public Policies and Development of the Digital Economy, attached to the Prime Minister;

M. Jean-Marie Bockel becomes Minister of State for Defence and Veterans, attached to the Minister of Defence;

M. Alain Marleix is appointed Minister of State for the Interior and Local Authorities, attached to the Minister of the Interior, Overseas France and Local Authorities; and

M. Hervé Novelli becomes Minister of State responsible for Trade, Small-Scale Businesses, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Tourism and Services, attached to the Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment.

Ministers whose portfolios have changed

M. Jean-Louis Borloo: Ministre d’Etat, Minister for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning (Regional Development);

Mme Christine Lagarde: Minister for the Economy, Industry and Employment;

M. Brice Hortefeux: Minister of Immigration, Integration, National Identity and Mutually-Supportive Development;

M. Xavier Bertrand: Minister for Labour, Labour Relations, the Family and Solidarity; and

Mme Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin: Minister for Health, Youth, Sport and the Voluntary Organizations.
