Légion d’Honneur for Lord Wallace of Saltaire (19.12.05)

On 19 December, the French Ambassador presented the insignia of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur to Lord Wallace of Saltaire at a reception held in the Résidence de France.
The French government awarded this honour to Lord Wallace in recognition of his long-standing efforts to promote the European Union. His many books on Europe include “The Transformation of Western Europe”.
Lord Wallace of Saltaire is Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat Peers. He began his distinguished academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Government at Manchester University, before becoming Director of Studies at Chatham House and then Walter Hallstein Senior Research Fellow at St Anthony’s College, Oxford. Since 1995, Lord Wallace has been a Professor of International Relations at LSE.
