The French Ambassador to the United Kingdom, M. Gérard Errera, presented the insignia of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur to Mrs Laurence Colchester at a ceremony at the Résidence de France on Wednesday, 26 April 2006.
Since 2003, Mrs Colchester has been a partner and director of a publishing house specializing in bringing foreign crime fiction, including that by French authors, to an English-speaking readership.
She is a highly respected figure and well known through her active contribution to the promotion of trade relations between France and the UK, having been the founder of the Young Franco-British Chamber of Commerce, Director General of the French Chamber of Commerce in the UK and Trade Attachée at the French Embassy in London’s Trade and Finance Section.
Mrs Colchester also plays an important role in the French community’s charity organizations. She was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite in 1995.
