Importing medecines into France

Since 1st January 1993, customs formalities when crossing French borders from any other E.U. country have been suppressed.

However, the regulation regarding the importation of medicated drugs, is as follows:

- If the drugs are carried for the personal needs of an individual, they are exempted from authorisation.

However, we do advise you to accompany the medicines with the prescription from the doctor, mentioning the type, name and amount of medicine taken. The amount carried has to be similar to the amount prescribed for the length of stay in France.

- If the drugs are sent by post you will need to send them with:

  • either the autorisation of the French Agency of Medication:
    143-147 Bd Anatole France
    Département Import/Export
    93200 Saint-Denis
    tel: 00 33 1 55 87 32 71
    Fax: 00 33 1 55 87 36 32
  • or the authorisation of launch on the market
