How and where to apply for a visa? [ fr ]

To apply for a visa from the French Authorities in London:

- You must hold a valid and recognized passport/ travel document;

Your passport/ travel document must have been issued within the last 10 years and have at least 3 months validity after the intended date of departure from the Schengen area.

- You must be resident in the UK

  • Your UK residency must have at least 3 months validity after the intended date of departure from the Schengen area.
  • As per the decree 2008-1176 of the 13th of November 2008, the French Consulate, London, is not competent in processing visa applications of people not resident in the UK, i.e. holders of ’C-Visit’ visas or of a British visa valid for 6 months or less. People who are not resident in the UK must apply for their Schengen visas at the French Consulate in their country of residence.

- France is your only or main destination: spending more time in France than in any other Schengen countries within the same trip
or France is the country of your first entry into the Schengen area if you intend to stay the same amount of time in all the countries visited within the same trip;
If France is not your main destination, please contact the Consulate of the competent Schengen States.

- You must live within the jurisdiction of the French Consulate, London.

Be aware that, due to the introduction of biometric visas, all applicants, except children under the age of 12 and Heads of States and their spouses, must apply in person.

- Information: To obtain a personalised list according to your particulars and the type of visa you require, please register on the TLScontact website and complete the questionnaire online. Alternatively you may call 0845 7300 118, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30 pm to speak to an adviser.
Do note that if your application is incomplete it will delay the processing of your application/ may lead to your visa being refused. We consequently advise you to double check that your file includes all documents requested as well as their photocopies before submitting your application.

- Appointment: To book an appointment, go to the TLScontact website or call 0845 7300 118, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30.
Do allow at least 15 days for visa processing but do not submit your application more than 3 months before your planned dates of travel. Warning: passports cannot be withdrawn once they have been delivered to the Consulate and until the visa processing has been completed.

- Passport collection:
TLScontact will inform you by email or text message as soon as your passport is ready for collection - You will have the option of collecting your passport yourself or via a designated third party at the TLScontact centre or you may choose to have your application sent back by registered mail.

Direct Appointment at the French Consulate General

If you do not want to use TLScontact services, you may still apply directly at the French Consulate. Appointments are compulsory and shall be made through TLScontact by calling 0845 7300 118, Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. The minimum processing time is 24h00 – you will need to arrange to come back to the Consulate in person to collect your passport.
