Prime Minister François Fillon applauds today’s announcement by GDF-Suez that it is to take control of International Power.
Nearly three years after the GDF-Suez merger, the Prime Minister welcomes the creation of a world leader in electricity production. It will be present throughout the world and have a very varied portfolio, particularly in the field of renewable energy. This large-scale industrial operation shows the vitality and dynamism of the major French industrial companies, in a particularly strategic sector.
The State, with a current holding in GDF-Suez of nearly 36%, will retain its full place within the group, since the level of its shareholding remains unchanged.
Within the company there is a wide consensus in favour of this operation, approved by the GDF-Suez board, including the employee representatives. It will be put to the vote of the International Power shareholders./.
