France welcomes Eurogroup agreement on Greece

European Union/Euro Area/Greece – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, 14 August 2015

The French President welcomes the agreement reached this evening in the Eurogroup. The Euro Area countries’ finance ministers validated the three-year programme of support for Greece, which had been negotiated with the institutions. It proves that Europe is capable of moving forward on the basis of the principles of solidarity and responsibility. It is also a successful outcome for Greece, which has made the efforts expected of it by voting through this third programme this morning.

This decision is going to allow Greece, within the Euro Area, to return to growth, investment and stability.

The programme approved today translates into action the agreement reached by the heads of state and government on 13 July 2015, in which France played a major role with Germany.

This decisive step has been achieved thanks to the determination of Alexis Tsipras’ government, which has committed itself to courageous reforms, with due regard for its principles of justice. France will be at its side./.

European Union/Greece – Communiqué issued by the Ministry of Finance and Public Accounts

Paris, 14 August 2015

An agreement was reached in the Eurogroup this evening on the implementation of a European Stability Mechanism programme for Greece.

The programme is based on a package of ambitious reforms defined by Greece and the institutions to encourage a return to growth and competitiveness.

In recent weeks, the Greek government has shown its profound determination to implement the reforms necessary for the country’s economic, financial and social recovery.

Since the beginning of the discussions, France has always believed that Greece’s place is in the Euro Area, provided that compliance with the European rules is guaranteed.

It has spared no efforts to narrow differences between views and enable an agreement to be reached.

Michel Sapin states: “This agreement is a success for Greece and for Europe. France is proud to have made a useful contribution to it through the dialogue [it has] always maintained with its European partners”./.
