France opens NPT Review Conference website

France TNP 2010 website – Statement by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Deputy Spokesman

Paris, 23 March 2010

France now has a website setting out our position vis-à-vis the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference (NPT): http://www.francetnp2010.fr [English version available].

The next NPT Review Conference will take place from 3 to 28 May 2010 in New York. This is a landmark meeting for the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.

France is fully mobilized to contribute to the success of this event. We must seize this opportunity to move closer to a safer world where all the goals set by the NPT on non-proliferation, disarmament and access to peaceful uses of nuclear energy can be achieved.

We are keen for the 2010 Review Conference to adopt a concrete realistic plan of action in these three spheres. Together with her European Union partners, France has made proposals. This is an ambitious programme genuinely capable of taking us further towards a safer world.

We must build a new nuclear order, based on the NPT and the realities of today’s world. France will determinedly champion this in May 2010 in New York and beyond.

Bernard Kouchner will present France’s action in this area in this afternoon’s Senate debate on disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation./.
