France condemns terrorist attack in Côte d’Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire/terrorist attack in Grand-Bassam/conversation between M. François Hollande, President of the Republic, and Mr Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d’Ivoire – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, 14 March 2016

The French President spoke on the telephone to Mr Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d’Ivoire.

They discussed the latest regarding the Grand-Bassam attack, whose toll has increased because four French people have now died. The French President extends his condolences to the families of all the victims.

The French President confirmed tomorrow’s visit to Abidjan by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the Minister of the Interior, to show France’s solidarity with Côte d’Ivoire in a concrete way. France will support Côte d’Ivoire in its initiatives to fight terrorism and believes that cooperation between all the states threatened by terrorist groups, particularly in West Africa, must be stepped up more than ever./.

The French President strongly condemns the cowardly attack which claimed the lives of about 10 civilians, including at least one French person and several members of the security forces, in Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire, this afternoon.

France is lending its logistical and intelligence support to Côte d’Ivoire to find the attackers. It will continue and step up its cooperation with its partners in the fight against terrorism.

The President extends France’s solidarity to the victims and their families./.
