Terrorist attack in the West Bank/death of four Israeli civilians – Statement by Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs

France utterly condemns the terrorist attack which has just killed four Israeli civilians in the Hebron area.
In these tragic circumstances, I extend my condolences to the bereaved and the Israeli authorities.
At a time when direct talks are going to open on 2 September in Washington between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas, I urge the Palestinian and Israeli leaders to show restraint and not give in to provocation by extremists hostile to peace.
It is now time for responsible action, courage and to mobilize for peace. France will spare no effort to encourage and support the Israelis and Palestinians on this path./.
