Franco-Comorian cooperation – Communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

Paris, 6 May 2008

In order to assist the Union of the Comoros in its development, France and the Union of the Comoros have decided to revive the cooperation projects designed for the country’s economic development that had been suspended at the request of the Comorian authorities.

The Ministers of State for Cooperation and Francophony and for Overseas France will travel to Moroni on 15 May for the first meeting of the high-level working group (HLWG) which President Sarkozy and the President Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi of the Union of the Comoros agreed to establish at their meeting in Paris on 28 September 2007.

In accordance with the wishes of the Comorian authorities, the HLWG will begin its work by examining questions involving the movement of people, especially between Mayotte and the other islands of the archipelago so as to better organize and regulate trade, and facilitate the legal stay of Comorians on French territory./.
