The aim of this guide Funding UK to France is to bring together and to sum up in one unique document all the different sources of funding, on the British side as well as on the French side. Not only does it make a list of most of the available schemes, it also allows its reader to understand how each body or institution works (there is a short introduction at the beginning of each section). The French institutions are relatively unknown by the British students and scientists, whereas they have created a large number of schemes (either with no restriction of nationality, or specifically created to welcome foreign applicants).

The very high standard of French research is a major asset in higher education, especially for PhDs and research. An academic stay in France gives therefore access to leading-edge research, which would be inaccessible from outside. Moreover, French higher education qualifications (from universities or Grandes Ecoles) are very well recognized throughout the world, particularly for the quality of the post-graduate teaching.

The first part of this guide deals with British sources of funding (public and private sector) that allow British students and researchers to work in France. The second part focuses on what French institutions and bodies have created in order to welcome and attract foreign applicants. The last two parts are about Anglo-French partnerships and European or Global programmes (international level). They can also be found in the French version of this guide.
