HIV/AIDS, more than 25 years later: which challenges remain?

[([* CLAUDE BERNARD LECTURE HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Due to unforeseen, personal reasons, Prof Francoise Barre-Sinoussi had to cancel her visit to London and the lecture. We are extremely sorry to let you know that the Claude Bernard lecture will NOT go ahead. We apologise for this late notice but the Royal Society has only been informed today about this development. At this moment the Royal Society cannot be sure if the lecture will be held at a later date.*])]

The 2010 Claude Bernard International Lecture

Presented by Prof Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Head of the Unit “Regulation of Retroviral Infections” at the Institut Pasteur, Paris.

Prof Barré-Sinoussi started her research on HIV/AIDS in the early 1980ies, demonstrating that the disease was caused by a retrovirus. The results of the successful isolation, amplification, and preliminary characterisation of the virus were published in Science in May 1983. This marked the beginning of a distinguished research career at the Institut Pasteur, culminating in receiving the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008, which she shared with Luc Montagnier and Harald zur Hausen.

Location: The Royal Society
Date: Wednesday, 15th September 2010
Time: 6pm, followed by reception
