Bernard Cazeneuve and Theresa May visit Calais
Bernard Cazeneuve will visit Calais on Thursday 20 August in the company of his British counterpart, Theresa May.
Together they will visit the Eurotunnel site and meet voluntary organizations helping migrants. They will sign a new Franco-British agreement strengthening, on the one hand, their shared commitment to the site’s security and the resolute joint battle against criminal people-smuggling, human trafficking and illegal immigration rings and, on the other, the humanitarian operation developed on site with voluntary organization and local elected representatives, particularly to protect the most vulnerable.

9.45 a.m. Ministers arrive at the Channel Tunnel entrance and visit the Eurotunnel site’s security installations financed by the United Kingdom (open to all press)
10.00 a.m. Meeting on the HGV boarding platforms with the police involved (open to all press; press briefing)
10.30 a.m. Visit to the Eurotunnel site’s security control room (press pool)
10.40 a.m. At border police headquarters:
• Signature of the agreement to recruit Eurotunnel security agents
• Signature of the agreement between the Ministry of the Interior and Eurotunnel (open to all press).
11.10 a.m. Round table on Franco-British cooperation on illegal immigration (open to all press).
11.20 a.m. Departure for Calais sub-prefect’s office.
11.45 a.m. Presentation of the Centre Jules Ferry’s activities to support vulnerable people, and witness accounts (press pool).
12.15 p.m. Signature of Franco-British agreement, speech by the ministers and answers to press questions (open to all press).
1.00 p.m. Round table with local elected representatives and the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (not open to press).
