After travelling by Renault Zoe electric car from the French Embassy in Knightsbridge to the Institut français in South Kensington, Ambassador Bermann gave the opening speech at The Road to Paris climate change event ahead of the Paris COP 21 Climate Conference in November.

The panel of speakers at the Institut français included Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb, former Chair and Member of the London Assembly Economy Committee; André Gattolin, French Senator for the greater Paris region and vice-chairman of the Senate’s Finance Committee; Matthew Pencharz, Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy; and Julie Angulo, Innovation and Recycling Manager with French water and waste management company Veolia.

On the subject of climate talks, Ambassador Bermann said: "We expect this negotiation to go to the wire. Delegates from all countries have resumed talks in Bonn. Some major players, the EU, but also the US and China, have made important pledges. Will it be good enough?

“As French negotiator, Ambassador Laurence Tubiana, often says: we should not refer to Paris as ‘the last chance summit’ – rather as the best opportunity we’ve had for a very long time to reach a deal.”
