On 16 April, Ambassador Sylvie Bermann attended the London Book Fair, one of the most important book-publishing trade fairs, to meet the many French publishers there.

To celebrate this event, French and British publishers were invited to a reception at the Ambassador’s residence to talk about the importance of Franco-British cooperation in the field of literature.

In her speech, the Ambassador praised the warm welcome given to French literature in the UK and its loyal following here. She highlighted the role of French publishers, who significantly contribute to the development of French culture across the Channel. Sylvie Bermann recalled the many prizes recently awarded to French authors such as Patrick Modiano, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2014. When these books are translated into English, there is another opportunity to discover or rediscover them.

The meeting at the Ambassador’s residence enabled French and British publishers to forge new ties and start future creations.
