Ambassador interviewed on Channel 4 News

Ambassador speaks to Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 news regarding the Calais situation

Ambassador Bermann has given a live interview to Channel 4 News in which she has defended the French government’s decision to relocate migrants living in the southern part of the so-called Calais “Jungle” to more sanitary accommodation.

Speaking to Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the Ambassador said: "Conditions [in the temporary accommodation] will be far better than in "the Jungle".

"How could you consider it is better to live in those squalid conditions than to be relocated in accommodation where you have water, heating, electricity?"

The Ambassador also emphasized that all the migrants living in the dismantled part of the “Jungle” will be offered temporary accommodation either in Calais or in another part of the country (where they will then be able to claim asylum in France).
