Ambassador hosts reception for Paris-London Lebey Guide
Reception at Ambassador’s residence for publication that celebrates best of French bistros and British gastropubs
The Ambassador, HE Sylvie Bermann hosted a reception at her residence on Monday night to celebrate the publication of Le Lebey Paris-London guide which presents the 100 best bistros in Paris and the hundred best gastropubs in London.
In attendance were publishers Gérald de Roquemaurel and Pierre-Yves Chupin whose idea it was to combine the gastronomy of Paris and London in one book.
The event featured a number of well-known and startup French and British artisans displaying and serving their products, including fine cheeses, wines and mustard.
In her opening address the Ambassador said that London "had always occupied an important place in the history of French gastronomy".
She also paid tribute to the stoicism of the French people in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.
The Ambassador said: "Over the last few days, going to a bistro in Paris has become an act of defiance, a modern-day symbol of “la Résistance”, as the New York Times put it.
"Restaurant owners, chefs and customers have voiced support online, using the hashtags #TousAuBistrot and #JeSuisEnTerrasse — “I am sitting outside”.
The Ambassdor also took the opportunity to announce the second annual celebration of French gastronomy, Goût de France/ Good France.
Taking place on 21 March 2016, the worldwide event will see chefs promoting their dishes and their savoir-faire with active support from the French Embassy, Atout France and media partners.
