Friday 4 December 2015

Second World War veterans who helped liberate France received the Legion d’honneur from HE Ambassador Bermann at Birmingham Council House on Tuesday in the presence of the Lord Mayor.

This the latest in a number of cereomonies awarding France’s highest honour to Second World War veterans since the 70th anniversary of D-Day in June 2014.

Ambassador Bermann thanked the veterans for their role in the Second World War:

“Those here today have all played an active role in the liberation of our country,” she said.

"Those young men, amid that hell of fire and steel, didn’t hesitate for one second. They advanced, advanced across the soil of France, braving the bullets and shells; they advanced to defend a noble cause."

A group of veterans from around the London region will receive the Légion d’honneur on Wednesday 9 December at 11am at the Ambassador’s Residence in Kensington Palace Gardens London.
