11th Pacific Science Inter-Congress

PSI 11 2009 is a unique opportunity to share the latest findings on local and global changes for the Pacific region, to discuss the implications for Pacific countries and their ocean, and to develop strategies to deal with these challenges for the region future.

Pacific countries are more affected than most by the world-changing events of climate change and globalization. The general goal of this congress is to take stock of knowledge of local and world changes from scientific, social, economic and cultural aspects.

France, French Polynesia, and the Pacific Science Association are pleased to organize the 11th Pacific Science Intercongress on the theme : “Pacific countries and their ocean facing local and global changes”.

The congress has four objectives :

- To assess the status of knowledge of local and global changes in Pacific countries ;
- To gather Pacific scientists and other scientists working in the Pacific region
- To develop beneficial interaction between all the countries of the Pacific region, and with the scientific communities of French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, and New Caledonia in particular.
- To give young scientists in the Pacific region a stimulating exchange opportunity.

The inter-congress will cover topics such as :

- Ecosystems, Biodiversity and Sustainable development
- Climate Change and Ocean Acidification :
- Health Challenges in the Pacific : Infectious disease, Non-communicable disease and the Health workforce
- Culture and Politics : The Stakes of Modernity
- Economy : The Challenges for the Future of the Pacific.

These 5 themes will be discussed during parallel sessions.

The organising committee is pleased to invite all those who are working in the Pacific region and who are interested in local and global changes impacting the natural, social and cultural heritage of Pacific countries.
